The Director has a 24-hour, 7 day a week responsibility to provideleadership for the cost center (s). This includes planning, organizing, staffdevelopment, performance management, quality fiscal and information management,regulatory compliance, building and enhancing relationships through customerrelations, and appropriate professional involvement. The Director isaccountable for the management of the cost center(s) within the establishedbudget. The Director will work closely with medical directors, medicaldepartment chairs, physicians, and other disciplines to develop services andensure quality. Access to all Patient Health Information.

�Regularlyattends Nurse Leadership meetings and takes personal responsibility for thequality and integrity of Nursing Administration. Regularly volunteersfor and completes special projects.
�Submits soundannual budget plan by negotiation deadline annually.
�Achieves YTDcompliance with labor hour benchmark per unit of service. Submits pay periodproductivity variance reports on time, identifying rationale for substantivevariances.
�Controls andmonitors supply costs to achieve flexed budgeted costs on a quarterly basis.
�Reviewsstatistical analysis information and corrects any errors monthly.
�Identifiesand implements cost savings through labor and supply utilization efficiencies.
�Promotessound staffing practice by optimizing the utilization of humanresources. Anticipates and forecasts personnel needs of thedepartment with regard to fluctuations in the projected workload.
�Maintains awritten staffing plan consistent with department�s productivity benchmark. Maintainsan individual patient classification system which predicts nursing carerequirements by shift, and maintains documentation to discern trends andpatterns of nursing care delivery by shift and staff mix.
�Ensures thatcurrent criteria-based job performance standard and applicable competenciesexist each member of the staff. Ensures that performance evaluationsare completed in a timely fashion for both annual and evaluations.
�Continuallymonitors the department�s activities and takes appropriate action to ensureefficient and effective operation. Observes ongoing operations andanalyzes performance to identify potential problems.
�Assesses andimplements staff development and cross-training as needed.
�Coordinatestimely attendance at hospital orientation and all mandatory continuingeducation programs for department employees. Assures current,comprehensive, and timely department specific orientation for all newemployees.
�Supports allhospital programs to include, but not limited to, risk management, safety,infection control.
�Maintainspersonal current knowledge and expertise in the specialty field of thedepartment, and of regulatory requirements of the department.
�Productivelycriticizes and effectively counsels staff in a timely manner.
�Obtainsfeedback on a regular basis from other departments. Develops actionplans to achieve improvement.
�Maintains agood working rapport with all staff, and other departments which requirefrequent interactions and coordination of efforts.
�Establishesand maintains a routine mode of communication with staff, e.g., monthly staffmeetings and written communications.
�Communicatesself and staff concerns and problems through proper written and verbalchannels.
�Communicates,cooperates, and performs related duties with other members of the hospitalstaff and administration in a courteous and efficient manner to activelycontribute to overall hospital goals and objectives.

�Demonstrateseffective and responsible relationships with patients, families, medicaldirector and key physicians, employees, management and administration, andrelated outside agencies.
�Assurestimely follow up of patient, family, staff, and physician concerns.

�Identifiespriority quality improvement and customer satisfaction initiatives.
�Schedules thecollection of data for these initiatives, and other ongoing reviews which serveas quality trending. Monitors and reviews the results withdepartment staff on a regular basis.
�Achievesmeasurable improvement in key quality initiatives, which include both process,e.g., documentation, and outcome measures.
�Achievesmeasurable improvement in customer service.
�Reports atleast annually to the designated hospital quality committee,.
�Assuresdepartment compliance with TJC and other accrediting body standards as they areupdates/revised.
�Works withMedical Staff partners to meet performance metrics
�CurrentCalifornia RN license
�At leastThree (3) years� experience in a clinical specialty.
�Currentknowledge of the field, with evidence of ongoing continuing education inclinicalspecialty.
�Progressivehealthcare experience including at least two (2) years supervisory experience.
�Demonstratedcompetence as a leader.
�Master�sDegree (MSN, MHA, MBA) or enrolled in Master�s Degree program with completionwithin one year of date of hire.
