University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC), an acute care, community hospital, provides comprehensive primary and specialty care to residents of Ann Arundel County and the region. With 272 licensed beds, 84,775 ED visits, 1,500 deliveries, and 16,727 admissions annually, UM BWMC is growing across multiple service lines. UM BWMC is a member of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), a multi-hospital system with academic, community and specialty service missions reaching every part of the state and beyond. UM BWMC provides comprehensive primary and specialty health care to residents of Anne Arundel County and the surrounding region. Centers of Excellence and Services include: The Tate Cancer Center, the Aiello Breast Center, the Vascular Center, the Cardiac Care Team and the Spine and Neuroscience Center, the Joint Replacement Center, Emergency Medicine, the Pascal Women’s Center, the UM Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology, and the Community Outreach Program. UM BWMC’s Heart Program receives recognition year after year including the following in 2018: AHA Mission: Lifeline Gold Quality Achievement Award and the American College of Cardiology Foundation Get With The Guidelines Platinum Performance Achievement Award. UM BWMC has developed a professional nursing culture utilizing a Relationship Based Care model and is currently on the Pathways to Excellence journey, submitting the application in November.
As a member of the hospital’s executive team, the Senior Vice President/Chief Nurse Officer (SVP/CNO) provides leadership for nursing, for designated hospital departments, and services to attain the organization’s strategic, financial and operational goals. The SVP/CNO reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer, collaborates with members of the executive team and medical staff leadership, and interactions regularly with the Board of Directors and community members. The SVP/CNO will promote a professional practice culture that engages staff in the Pathway to Excellence journey and support Relationship Based Care to deliver safe, effective and therapeutic nursing care to patients/families and ensure a positive patient experience. As part of the UMMS, the SVP/CNO works with the System CNE and CNO colleagues to advance nursing practice, promote standardization and achieve the strategic goals of the System. Direct reports to the SVP/CNO include: Directors of Nursing and the Director of Clinical Education.
A Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, one of which must be in Nursing.
Five to seven years of progressive CNO or senior nursing leadership experience, preferably within a health system.
Contemporary leadership expertise, knowledge of RBC, and ability to support the attainment of Pathways to Excellence.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships with physicians and executive colleagues.
Solid business, financial, operations management and workforce planning expertise.
Demonstrated ability to develop practices and processes to advance national quality metrics.
Evidence of integrity, creativity, initiative, interpersonal skills and highly developed communication skills.
