Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center in Northwest Portland is known for its specialty programs and clinical excellence. Legacy Good Samaritan features nationally renowned doctors in cancer care, kidney transplantations, neurology, ophthalmology, weight-loss surgery, robotic surgery, rehabilitation and more, plus Oregon’s only 24-hour urgent care that’s located alongside an emergency room, with access to emergency care if needed.
Serves as Director of Patient Care Services for a service line, site or program within Legacy Health. The Director is responsible and accountable for the performance of assigned departments to produce high quality clinical outcomes, manage resources within budgeted parameters, and to lead a management team to establish and maintain a culture of interdisciplinary collaboration and service excellence. The Director is expected to contribute to strategic and operational planning and to implement and follow through on all planned initiatives to their completion; to role model the highest standards of professional behavior, and to develop productive collaborative relationships with medical staff, ancillary departments, and the senior management team.
Education: An academic degree in nursing is required (BSN or MSN/MN). A Master’s degree or higher is required.
Promotions or Internal Transfers: Master’s degree or higher is required. One academic degree (i.e. Bachelor’s or Master’s) must be in nursing. The Master’s requirement may be met for candidates who demonstrate that they are enrolled in an accredited Master’s level program. Candidates must either be scheduled to commence this program within 6 months of hire or have already begun and be making meaningful progress toward completion of the Master’s degree. Demonstrated evidence of course completion will be required at the end of each term and will be tracked by the individual’s manager. The BSN requirement may be met for candidates with an Associate’s degree attending direct entry Master’s programs in nursing, and are within one year of graduation.
Experience: A minimum of eight years progressive professional and/or managerial experience within health care environment.
This Director of Patient Care Services will be responsible for five direct reports in the inpatient areas to include managers of the Emergency Department/Urgent Care; ICU/IMCU; Progressive Care/Medical Telemetry; Surgical Specialties/Oncology and Women's Services/Family Birth. This Director will report to the VP/Chief Nursing Officer.
Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated ability to manage people in setting goals, giving appropriate support, evaluating, directing, and holding employees accountable while maintaining high morale and productivity. Ability to communicate written and oral ideas, plans and directions effectively and facilitate and present data in front of large groups. Must have a thorough understanding of current developments and trends in healthcare management and areas of defined accountability
