The Senior Director of Nursing Oncology leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing strategic plan, objectives, and standards for Oncology services across the Johns Hopkins Health System.
The Senior Director leads, manages, and evaluates systems and processes that support oncology nursing and allied health clinical practices. In addition, the Sr. Director of Nursing for Oncology will provide consultation and oversight for new programs within the Johns Hopkins Health System.
The Sr. Director leads and manages clinical operations and initiatives of the oncology patient care delivery system to achieve established productivity, quality, safety, and satisfaction performance parameters.
Accountable for the development and monitoring of the functional unit nursing budgets in Oncology. Assures cost-effective use of resources.
Reports to Chief Nursing Officer of Johns Hopkins Hospital and Chair of Oncology. The Senior Director of Nursing for Oncology collaborates with the JHHS Medical Directors, CNOs, Director Oncology National Capital region and the Sr. VP of Nursing for the Johns Hopkins Health System.
Leads the development of strategic growth and operational objectives for the overall oncology services in conjunction with the departmental leadership and respective leaders at the health system entities.
Initiates opportunities to collaborate with local and regional partners to lead mission driven program development efforts using data-driven analytics to project growth, financial impact, and vision for oncology services.
Integrates oncology services for clinical and strategic plans that are consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Works collaboratively with physicians, nursing and other relevant staff to gain support for the vision and develop goals for oncology services.
Integrates oncology services across the health system through collaborative initiatives including standardizing where appropriate, policies and procedures, orientation and training programs, and clinical staff competencies.
Fosters collaboration between entities to assure standards are met to achieve accreditations, certifications, and recognition for high performance services.
Supports an environment conducive to meeting financial targets, standards of excellence, collaborative research, as well as employee and patient/family satisfaction.
Promotes and supports the Patient and Family- Centered Care across oncology services.
Keeps abreast of quality metrics and initiatives to monitor outcomes and processes of care to promote quality services and avoid financial disincentives.
Promotes an environment that supports and embraces diversity of staff and reflects the populations served to meet the needs of both the community and region.
Develops and maintains high engagement and accountability where all members of the health care team have an opportunity for participation and job satisfaction to achieve the vision, mission, and goals of the organization.
Develops and executes programs that improve value-based oncology services across Johns Hopkins Medicine and assure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Identifies and implements evidenced based practice strategies that lead to risk management reductions.
Provides leadership and direction for the goals of the oncology services quality committees.
Promotes participation in relevant research and uses research results to improve care delivery and clinical practice.
Master's degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
Doctorate highly preferred; 7 years of progressively responsible senior nursing leadership experience with at least 5 years in oncology nursing.
In-depth knowledge of oncology nursing competencies, the scope of practice and professional practice.
Experience in an NCI designated hospital highly desirable.
Experience working on a Magnet journey or in a Magnet hospital highly desirable.
Experience leading large complex projects.
Analytical ability necessary to oversee, direct, and evaluate objectives and operations of the nursing department; develop and administer sound policies, procedures, budgets, and standards; identify and respond to deficiencies; and initiate corrective actions to achieve desired results
Active listener and able to synthesize the information from multiple stakeholders quickly.
Good communication skills, engaging, passionate about healthcare.
Experience with strategic planning and execution
Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Maryland or able to obtain.
