This role provides leadership and support to the seniorexecutive position (CNO) responsible for all nursing and other designatedpatient care functions/services within the hospital organization.
TheDirector has a 24-hour, 7 day a week responsibility to provide leadership forthe cost center (s). This includes planning, organizing, staff development,performance management, quality fiscal and information management, regulatorycompliance, building and enhancing relationships through customer relations,and appropriate professional involvement. The Director is accountable for themanagement of the cost center(s) within the established budget. The Directorwill work closely with medical directors, medical department chairs,physicians, and other disciplines to develop services and ensure quality.Access to all Patient Health Information.

Achieves YTD compliancewith labor hour benchmark per unit of service. Submits pay period productivityvariance reports on time, identifying rationale for substantive variances.
Controls and monitorssupply costs to achieve flexed budgeted costs on a quarterly basis.
Reviews statisticalanalysis information and corrects any errors monthly.
Identifies andimplements cost savings through labor and supply utilization efficiencies.
Promotes sound staffingpractice by optimizing the utilization of human resources. Anticipates andforecasts personnel needs of the department with regard to fluctuations in theprojected workload.
Maintains a writtenstaffing plan consistent with department�s productivity benchmark. Maintains anindividual patient classification system which predicts nursing carerequirements by shift, and maintains documentation to discern trends andpatterns of nursing care delivery by shift and staff mix.
Ensures that currentcriteria-based job performance standard and applicable competencies exist eachmember of the staff. Ensures that performance evaluations are completed in atimely fashion for both annual and evaluations.
Continually monitorsthe department�s activities and takes appropriate action to ensure efficientand effective operation. Observes ongoing operations and analyzes performanceto identify potential problems.
Assesses and implementsstaff development and cross-training as needed.
Coordinates timelyattendance at hospital orientation and all mandatory continuing educationprograms for department employees. Assures current, comprehensive, and timelydepartment specific orientation for all new employees.
Supports all hospitalprograms to include, but not limited to, risk management, safety, infectioncontrol.
Maintains personalcurrent knowledge and expertise in the specialty field of the department, andof regulatory requirements of the department.
Productively criticizesand effectively counsels staff in a timely manner.
Obtains feedback on aregular basis from other departments. Develops action plans to achieveimprovement.
Maintains a goodworking rapport with all staff, and other departments which require frequent interactionsand coordination of efforts.
Establishes andmaintains a routine mode of communication with staff, e.g., monthly staffmeetings and written communications.
Communicates self andstaff concerns and problems through proper written and verbal channels.
Communicates,cooperates, and performs related duties with other members of the hospitalstaff and administration in a courteous and efficient manner to activelycontribute to overall hospital goals and objectives.
Current California RNlicense
At least Three (3)years� experience in a clinical specialty.
Current knowledge ofthe field, with evidence of ongoing continuing education in clinical specialty.
Progressive healthcareexperience including at least two (2) years supervisory experience.
Demonstratedcompetence as a leader.
Master�s Degree (MSN,MHA, MBA) or enrolled in Master�s Degree program with completion within oneyear of date of hire.
