Vassar Brothers Medical Center (VBMC) is a 365-bed, full service acute care tertiary teaching hospital that has served New York’s Mid-Hudson Valley since 1887. A leading regional medical center and level II trauma center, VBMC is a member of Nuvance Health, a visionary, new seven-hospital integrated health care delivery system created on April 1, 2019, by the integration of Health Quest in the mid-Hudson Valley and Western Connecticut Health Network in western Connecticut. VBMC is one of two Nuvance Health flagship facilities.
Throughout its history, VBMC has been successful at attracting and recruiting primary care and specialty providers. VBMC is in good financial standing and has a strong balance sheet. For FY 2018, VBMC had total net operating revenue of $645 million, a net operating margin of 13% and 153 days cash on hand. VBMC has been in expansion mode for the past five years and has experienced significant and steady growth in recent years. In Spring of 2020 VBMC will open a new state-of-the-art replacement facility which will solidify VBMC’s place as the destination of choice for patients in the region.
The CNO has full responsibility for leading all patient care services for VBMC and providing the leadership, strategic guidance, and management direction necessary to fulfill the organization’s patient-centered mission. In collaboration with the Senior Leadership team, the CNO is responsible for fulfilling the hospital’s mission to provide quality care by participating in strategic planning, resource allocation and evaluating/improving patient outcomes. Additionally, the CNO will serve as a highly-visible leader and strong advocate for nurses within Nuvance Health and the local community.
The successful candidate will be a strategic, yet operationally focused leader and will possess strong nursing and business acumen. The ideal candidate will be capable of demonstrating inspiring, compassionate leadership while also leading and delivering significant performance. S/he will have a strong track record of health care and business expertise and success leading a high performing patient care operation of similar size and scale with top decile results. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a Master’s degree in Nursing, Business or related healthcare field is required, as is at least 10 years of progressively responsible nursing leadership experience within a unionized hospital/system of similar size, scale and complexity.
Located due north of New York City, the region is easily accessible to/from the city by car, or via train on Amtrak or Metro North. The region offers a wide variety of communities – urban/suburban to smaller rural. The Hudson River Valley is area known for its scenic rolling hills and mountains and abundance of year-round outdoor activities. The region is also rich in historical landmarks and cultural attractions.
