ABOUT THE CAREER OPPORTUNITY
The Emergency Department Nurse Leader is a high-profile member of the Emergency Department leadership team, responsible for day-to-day operations of the Emergency Department and accountable for assuring the consistent use of the nursing process in a professional and healthy work environment. Additionally, the Nurse Leader is responsible and accountable for achieving departmental levels of expected Quality, Financial, Customer Service, Throughput, and People results.
The Emergency Department Nurse Leader provides leadership for the development and implementation of departmental projects/initiatives, long and short-term goals, and planning, administering and evaluating the operation of the department. This department leader will coordinate with the Director to oversee implementation of patient care via organizational and departmental policies and procedures, evidence-based practice, American Nurses Association Scope, Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics, and the Maine Nurse Practice Act.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Reports to a highly supportive Director of Emergency Services
50 FTES including 1 Associate RN leader and 5 Charge RNs
45,000+ ED visits per year
Level II trauma designation and primary stroke center. Cath Lab and certified chest pain center
Provides oversite for the daily operations of the unit
Responsible for TJC compliance and HCAHP initiatives
Accountable for unit-specific metrics and tracking progress related to meeting goals and objectives
Assists in recruitment and retention of staff on the unit
Assists with onboarding of new staff to the department
Facilitates open and effective communication with ancillary departments and medical staff
Communicates areas of concerns appropriately to leadership and actively identifies solutions for correction
Coaches and counsels staff to enhance performance
Identifies educational opportunities for self and staff members
Assists in the development of staff members by continuously reviewing the care they provide and offers constructive feedback and education
Manages productivity by flexing staffing based on census and acuity
Monitors supply cost to maintain within budget, adhering to established PAR levels
Responsible for timely patient placement according to department matrix
Monitor time and attendance, corrective action, and opportunities for improvement with staff
