University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) is looking for a dynamic Leader to join our Nursing Leadership Team as Assistant Administrator-Critical Care Services (Assistant Administrator). This position Is key to UMC as we are El Paso’s only not-for-profit, community-owned, full service acute care facility. UMC is the only Level I Trauma Center within a 250-mile radius and the first and only Comprehensive Stroke and Level I Stroke Center.

The Assistant Administrator works under the supervision of and in collaboration with the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer, directs, coordinates, monitors, promotes and evaluates in all the components of the Neurosurgical and Adult Medical/Surgical Critical Care Services in collaboration with the medical directors and managers. The Assistant Administrator coordinates aspects and activities to include initiatives related to the development and maintenance of a Neurosciences Center of Excellence in collaboration with Texas Tech Neurology Department.

Education/Work Experience Requirements

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years progressive Nursing Healthcare Management/Supervisory experience required, with a strong background in critical care and/or emergency required. Experience in Level I Trauma Center highly preferred.
  • Current RN-Texas license and BLS certification required. CCRN, CEN, ATCN, ACLS and Nursing Executive Leadership certification preferred.

  3. Advanced knowledge of factors affecting delivery of patient care services and ability to lead the development and implementation of organizational changes to address strategic initiatives and opportunities to improve patient care and nursing practice.
  4. Strong analytical, numerical and reasoning abilities.
  5. Proven leadership ability, with demonstrated success in engendering trust, confidence, and commitment of medical staff.
  6. Demonstrated ability to plan and carry out projects or change initiatives of significant magnitude.
  7. Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
  8. Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish).
