The Nurse Services Manager 1 (working title Clinical Nurse Manager) reports to the Nurse Services Manager 2 and serves as an expert clinical leader and role model of clinical best practices. Experienced professional who provides direct clinical supervision to professional and technical employees. Spends the majority of time (50% or more) achieving clinical organizational objectives through the coordinated clinical achievements of subordinate staff. Establishes clinical departmental goals and objectives. Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources to facilitate coordinated and quality patient care in compliance with departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Functions with a degree of autonomy and shares 24/7 management responsibility with Nurse Services Manager 2. The Nurse Services Manager 1 directly manages nursing clinical practices and processes of specific patient care area(s) to ensure excellent patient experiences and clinical outcomes. Implements changes to patient workflows and operational processes to ensure coordinated care. Maintains 24-hour clinical line management responsibility for clinical coordination of resources to provide daily care management, including but not limited to developing and conducting clinical surveillance and workflow audits in day-to-day operations and performing individual coaching and counseling. Possesses expert skills and knowledge to problem solve and analyze unique clinical issues or problems without precedent and/or structure. Additionally, provides expert clinical nursing consultation and coordinates patient care services on the unit. Responsible for quality patient outcomes on the unit including nurse sensitive indicators. Ensures the coordination of quality care and compliance defined by internal controls, external regulations and accepted practices across the continuum. Determines priorities and provides clinical direction to professional staff. Monitors compliance with nursing performance standards. Mentors and coaches staff to ensure quality care is delivered. Works with clinical educators and Nurse Services Manager 2 to evaluate and develop core clinical competencies for the unit. Facilitates collaborative decision-making and shared governance. Has advanced clinical thinking and problem solving skills to assess and address complex patient care issues with professional clinical staff. Demonstrated leadership skills including advance communication, coaching, and conflict resolution. Provides clinical mentorship to new graduate nurses, charge nurses, and emerging nurse leaders to smooth transition between clinical roles/positions. Assumes full responsibility of the unit in the absence of the manager.
California Registered Nurse license required BSN required, MSN highly desirable Nursing Professional Leadership Certificate highly desirable 5 years of current acute care experience required 3-5 years of intermediate population experience required PPCN certification required 2 years or greater in leadership (charge RN or Council Chair) Attainment of progressive leadership positions highly preferred
