Penn State Schuylkill is searching for two colleagues to join our Health Sciences faculty as Assistant Teaching Professors in Nursing for our newly launched BSN program in conjunction with the Penn State College of Nursing (CON). These are limited term (multi-year), non-tenure-line, 36 weeks appointment, with option for renewal. The candidates should have expertise in one of the following areas: Gerontology, Pediatrics, or OB/maternal. Both faculty members will teach general nursing courses along with courses in their area of expertise. Both positions are full-time thirty-six-week appointments with full benefits. The successful candidates will begin teaching Fall 2022 or as negotiated.

For both positions the primary responsibilities will include coordination and instruction in health assessment, professional nursing, fundamentals and medical/surgical nursing courses, including classroom and clinical teaching. Simulation and virtual teaching experience are preferred. Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening and/or Saturday classes as needed. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include advising students, participating in committees, and other service and scholarly activities as appropriate. There is an expectation that the faculty member will be involved in research, scholarship and/or quality improvement initiatives that benefit the campus, the college, the university, our students and the community and will also provide service to the campus, discipline and society. 

It is preferred that the candidate possess a terminal degree; candidates without a terminal degree should possess at least a Masters degree or its equivalent; show evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and mastery of medical surgical subject matter; hold a valid nursing license; and hold or be eligible for RN licensure in Pennsylvania. Certified Healthcare Simulation Education (CHSE) certification is expected upon hire or within 2-3 years of hire for the simulation coordinator position. Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) certification is highly preferred. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment, engagement with fellow faculty members in ways that contribute to a scholarly community on campus, active leadership in campus life, and engagement in the community through outreach activities that address regional needs are required. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the use of instructional technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.
