General Description:

Reporting to the System Chief Nurse Executive, the Vice President is accountable for leading multiple nursing support departments within the functional area of Nursing, Finance and Business Operations. Responsibilities include develop infrastructure, tools, systems, policies, procedures and appropriate programs to support nursing operations with the goal of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of patient and family care across the continuum. Create and support the implementation of new programs, workflows and/or processes while ensuring cultural fit, strategy and participation. These programs, workflows and or/processes serve as drivers of organizational nursing goals for patient safety, quality, financial and staff.  Responsible for ensuring Nursing, Finance and Business operations goals are met while aligning with organizational strategy and positive outcomes that enable the success of OU Health. Eligible for academic appointment in the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing.

• Strategic Management—Creates the operational objectives, goals and specific strategies required to achieve specific strategic outcomes across the system. Defines, designs and supports program implementation to achieve stated outcomes. Develops and assesses patient care delivery models. Utilizes Lean and Six Sigma for continuous process improvement, driving best outcomes.
• Change Management—Leads and implements change by applying change theory and by demonstrating strong project, change management and presentation skills.
• Information Management & Technology—Promotes technology in supporting improvement of clinical and financial performance, utilizes data management systems for decision-making and provides leadership for the adoption and implementation of information systems. Ability to interpret data analytics into an actionable clinical strategy.
• Clinical Practice Knowledge—Knowledge of current nursing practice and the roles and functions of patient care team members ensuring compliance with the State Nurse Practice Act, State Board of Nursing regulations, state and federal regulatory agency standards, state and federal labor standards and policies of the organization.
• Health Care Economics & Policy—Understands regulation and payment issues that affect a system’s finances and uses knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations that affect the provision of patient care (e.g., tort reform, malpractice, negligence, reimbursement).
• Governance—Uses knowledge of the role of the governing body of the facility and system in the following areas: compliance, credentialing and performance management.
• Evidence-based Practice, Outcome Measurement & Research—Uses data and other sources of evidence to inform decision making, and to establish standards, practices and patient care models in alignment with system-wide nursing colleagues.
• Patient Safety and Risk—Supports the development of a system-wide patient safety program using knowledge of patient safety science. Identifies areas of risk and liability, develops systems that result in prompt reporting of potential liability by staff at all levels.
• Ethics—Holds self and others accountable for complying with ethical standards of practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program and a Master’s degree in Healthcare or Business related field required. Doctorate in Nursing or related field preferred.

Experience: Five (5) years of nursing experience with progressive professional advancement in nursing/health care operations including five (5) years leadership or similar experience required. Broad based knowledge of the full scope of operations in an accredited academic medical center or primary teaching hospital of comparable size and scope to OU Health preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC). Board-certification in nursing leadership or related area, design thinking or innovation methodologies preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Outstanding leadership abilities including, but not limited to, planning, analyzing, decision making and Human Resources Management. Knowledge of current approaches to providing quality nursing care.  Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.  Ability to use a computer and required software for the preparation of statistical reports, proposals and other documentation.   Excellent leadership skills. Knowledge of various management and organizational philosophies.  Demonstrated performance improvement skills.  Demonstrated success in achieving TJC and other standards pertinent to the delivery of inpatient care.
