Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, the Senior Vice President, Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer (SVP/CNO) is a core member of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ (CHLA) executive leadership team and will play a critical role during a pivotal period of transformation for the organization. The SVP/CNO provides strategic direction, clinical and operational leadership for nursing and a wide range of patient care services, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality and financially sustainable care for a highly complex pediatric population. The CHLA SVP/CNO will be a visible, trusted leader who partners closely with CHLA's physician leaders, executive colleagues, and frontline teams to embed high reliability principles across CHLA's clinical operations.
As CHLA continues to evolve its operating model, the SVP/CNO will play a key role in advancing innovation in care delivery, supporting the academic and research missions, and fostering strong collaboration across disciplines. Success in this role requires the ability to translate enterprise priorities into clear, actionable expectations for the nursing organization, communicate transparently through change management, and engage teams around shared purpose and accountability. This is a compelling opportunity for an accomplished nurse executive to lead at one of the nation’s premier pediatric academic medical centers and help shape a more resilient and sustainable future for CHLA and the communities it serves .
IDEAL EXPERIENCE:
Progressive executive nurse leadership experience as a chief nursing officer, associate chief nursing officer or equivalent.
Leadership experience in a large, complex academic medical center; academic children's hospital; or in a large, high quality teaching hospital.
Experience in a diverse, urban and highly regulated market with high Medicaid-insured population is preferred. Pediatric experience is a plus but is not required.
Successful track record leading cost management initiatives. Exceptional financial acumen, with experience managing complex budgets.
Magnet experience preferred, with experience working with and through the team to achieve successful designation or re-designation.
A history of positive outcomes in workforce recruitment, retention and professional development. Experience in a “Best Place to Work” a plus, as well as experience with union avoidance strategies.
Experience with process improvement, care redesign and clinical transformation related to clinical quality, patient safety, patient satisfaction and resource allocation.
Advanced degree and nurse licensure. Per the Magnet requirement, must hold a master’s degree, at minimum. If the master’s degree is not in nursing, then either a baccalaureate or doctoral degree must be in nursing.
Current or eligible for Registered Nurse California Licensure.
